With the amount of star wide receivers that have been traded this offseason, many expect we are not finished just yet. Rumors have been swirling around DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks and A.J. Brown of the Tennessee Titans, but both teams are reportedly more interested in re-signing their talented wideouts to long-term deals.
On Tuesday, ESPN reported that the Titans are not taking calls on Brown. This comes after ESPN reported this past weekend that the Seahawks are telling teams Metcalf isn’t available. It’s the New York Jets who got the rumors started, as ESPN reported that they were “keeping an eye” on Metcalf, Brown and Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers for a potential trade. However, New York may strike out on all three.
While teams like the Jets are interested in Brown, the Titans have done nothing to show they would consider parting ways with him. General manager Jon Robinson even said that “he’s about what we’re about.”
“Right now, we are just trying to get through this free agency period, seeing where we’ve landed cap-wise,” Robinson said, via the Titans’ official website. “A.J. is an important part of what we do. He’s a great teammate, he works hard, he’s about what we’re about. A.J. is a Titan and we want to keep A.J. a Titan. And that’s part of our goal this offseason, or whenever that manifests itself, to come to an agreement to keep him around.”
Brown is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and could become one of the highest-paid receivers in the near future. The Ole Miss product is coming off of a statistically disappointing season, setting career-lows in receiving yards and touchdowns in 13 games played. However, he was still one of Tennessee’s best players when healthy, and went over 130 receiving yards in three games.
